Upcoming talk: in silico drug discovery and animal testing
We are proud to announce our participation in the upcoming study day, "Animals and Alternatives: The Way Forward" (in French: "Animaux et alternatives: la voie à suivre"), organized by Brussels Environment and RE-Place on March 27, 2023. The event will feature national and international speakers, including Kantify,'s Chief Technology Officer Nik Subramanian, who will present the impact of in silico drug discovery on the reduction of animal testing.
In silico drug discovery involves the use of computer simulations and models to predict the safety and efficacy of potential drugs, reducing the need for animal testing in the early stages of drug development. This approach results in significant time and cost savings while minimizing harm to animals. In addition to reducing the number of animals used for testing, in silico drug discovery also helps to identify drugs which will be toxic or have a high risk of having side effects, so they can be excluded of preclinical validation. This means that they are not tested on animals in case they have a strong risk to fail, further reducing the use of unnecessary animals in research.
With our technology Sapian, which has an unprecedented capacity to predict promising compounds and/or toxic compounds, we demonstrate the increasing efficiency and reliability of in silico drug discovery as complementary methods to animal testing.
As a region with a high concentration of university and institutional laboratories, Brussels is at the forefront of the scientific and ethical considerations surrounding the use of laboratory animals. This event will provide a platform to discuss progress towards implementing the 3Rs (Replace, Reduce, Refine) in scientific research and highlight alternatives to animal experimentation.
